This is My Boy

This is my boy,
A bountiful blessing
A lesson in character
A naturalist at heart
A reader in training
A kindergartener
A handful of energy
A memo to laugh
A note to enjoy
A moment to remember
A heart full of love
A hand full of dirt
A smile of sunshine
A belly to tickle
A hand to hold
A look that melts hearts
A laugh that stops time
A bountiful blessing
This is my boy.

Rolling

Rolling, Rolling
Here I go.
Where I’m going,
I don’t know.
Soon I’ll crawl,
And then I’ll walk.
Now I babble,
But soon I’ll talk.
Growing, growing
Every day.
Here I go.
I’m on my way.
I’m mama’s boy,
But I will be
A great big man.
Just wait and see!

Poppin' Johnny

As the sun begins to peek
And the birds begin to sing
I listen in the distance
From my front porch swing.
Poppin’ Johnny’s working hard
Pulling hard and strong
Man and machine together working
As hard as the day is long.
In my mind I hear the song
Poppin’ Johnny’s steadfast tempo
Earth and dirt harmonize
Turning steady and slow.

Just My Sisters and Me

Just my sisters and me
I love to play
And I love to fight
I love to stay up
And watch movies all night.
I love to pretend
To be kittens and such
Babies and monkeys
And dinosaurs so much
Just my sisters and me
They say girls will be girls
And boys will be boys
I really hate to clean
Up my toys
But if I smile
And say pretty please
The girls will help me
With the slightest of ease
Just my sisters and me
And when they get older
If they get in a fight
I will defend them
With all of my might
Then I’ll make them laugh
With a real funny face
And we’ll all remember
Our own special place
Just my sisters and me

Daddy's Little Helper

Working on the car
Helping fix the fence
Daddy’s little helper
Learning common sense
Finishing odd jobs
Taking care of pets
Daddy’s little helper
This is good as it gets
When the day is done
All the jobs are through
Daddy’s little helper
Is exhausted too
Lays his little head
Down to fall asleep
Daddy’s little helper
Memories to keep

Summer Psalm

He has sent the cool, sweet rain
Of blessings in the heat of the day.
Yesterday, today, and tomorrow
The Lord is forever unchanging
And His love endures forever.
Although my efforts are inadequate,
And His love I can never repay,
I will spend my time in service.
Longing for the day I see His face.
I will stand in His courts
With my hands lifted high.
In awe of His glory.
For He has created the heavens above
And the earth beneath my feet.
I will sing praises to the Lord forever
For He is worthy to be praised.
He has delivered me to the highest places
From the depths of the deep.
He has pardoned my transgressions
Through His grace and mercy.
He has seen the darkness of my soul
And has loved me anyway.
